Our challenge in creating this new café and bar in Sydney University’s Jane Foss Russell Building was the location. New plumbing had to be installed but the library underneath had exposed concrete soffits and small bulkheads, limiting the options. Working closely with Green Arrow Hydraulics we installed some of the services above the floor in the new topping slab and so reducing the penetrations required. The project used natural materials such as spotted gum, carerra marble, slate flooring and timber light fittings to create a warm and inviting venue suitable for both daytime and evening use. It was completed in 12 weeks and has been a big hit with students since opening.
